AREA DESCRIPTION

Aviemore is a popular year round destination and is the largest village in Strathspey. It is an excellent base for activities such as walking and mountain biking. There is a wide range of things to do.

Aviemore is the western terminus of the Strathspey Steam Railway, which runs to Boat of Garten and Broomhill. The Rothiemurchus Estate welcomes visitors with something for everyone, including a fish farm, guided walks, safari tours, clay pigeon shooting, and lots more.

Even nearer to the mountains, the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre enables visitors to see the UK's only reindeer herd free-ranging in their natural habitat. On the slopes of Cairngorm, the funicular railways allows visitors a view of the high, wild habitat of the mountain.

In winter,the funicular services the Cairngorm Ski area. Aviemore has a good choice of shops and a range of eating places. All with a fantastic backdrop of the Cairngorm mountains.
